New to the Tribe

Mark and Shirley began the process of moving in last month. We endured at least a month of hearing about Mark, but never seeing or having proof of his existence. He didn’t even have a name. He was the lawyer.

As it turns out, he fit instantly into the tribe. We could have been screwed if we’d gotten really uptight neighbors, especially after being next to DOUG, who was so cool.

So, here’s the top ten reasons, in no particular order, that I’m overjoyed to have Mark and Shirley as neighbors.

1. Mark wears a pony tail.
That was the first thing Earth Child noticed and reported instantly back to me.

2. Mark a liberal democrat.
Politics is important to both of us, and we speak the same lingo. I already have a conservative friend anyway.

3. Shirley is a really cool kind of doctor.
Really advanced alternative medicine kind of stuff. Now if the end of the world hits, the tribe has Dr. Shirley and Nurse Helen.

4. Mark has a ten year old daughter.
This puts her right between my two youngest Princesses of my Universe. The girls can’t wait to meet her.

5. Mark loves rocks, and collects them.
I think that’s kind of a weird hobby, especially since it’s something I love to do also.

6. Joe says Shirley is an amazing cook.
I haven’t had her food yet, but Joe knows from good cooking. This means yet another contributor to the great food at our tribal parties.

7. Mark is fixing the house up.
DOUG didn’t have the time or will to do much on the outside of the house the past few years, and so, well… the porch was pretty much about to fall down and the barn wasn’t too far behind it. Which leads to the next entry

8. They hired a HUGE TRACTOR to knock the barn down.
It was a huge, elegant mechanical beast and Mark and I watched it for hours. I compared it to the Iron Giant. He knew what I was talking about.

9. He has legal training.
The lower east side is a wonderful collection of the best people ever. We’re not angels though. It might be handy to have tribal legal counsel.

10. The Queen of My Universe and LIZ both like Shirley.
Of course they like Mark too, but if they didn’t like Shirley, I would hear about it. I’d hear about it a lot.
