So What’s Really Going on in Georgia?

This whole thing going on in Georgia is being completely misfed to the press by the government. Most of what I’ve read from any mainstream American press goes along with Bush’s line of bullshit delivered a couple days ago. He said “Such an action is unacceptable in the 21st century.” Ummm, George, you did something just like this in the 21st century. But that’s another story for another day.

Luckily for me, the Queen of My Universe has hooked me up with a couple blogs quite some time ago and both offer a very different picture of this conflict. Amazing what we learn when we go to experts other than those seen on CNN?

I learned from Elaine that we, along with Isreal, have been funding the Georgian Army for a long time as a hedge against Russia. Watch a little of this video she found. It shows the Georgians trying out some “crowd control” machines they got from the Iraqi Army. And we know where the Iraqi Army got it from right?

So, we’ve been funding this dicatorial scumbag for quite some time with money that, for the record, we don’t even have.

Next, Dmitry Orlov knows a lot about the whole thing and comes at it from two different perspectives. He’s Russian, but studies linguistics as well. There’s a whole labyrinth of ethnic issues at play here, and when you unravel it all you find that Georgia pretty much has been wanting to take over this territory, and they’re much closer ethnically to Russia, although the South Ossetians are really an entity unto themselves.

Okay, so… the media has fed us the simplistic story about evil Russians. Didn’t the military establishment beat the hell out of that dead horse during the Cold War? Georgia was probably waiting for us to back them with military support. Oops. We don’t have the kind of money we had floating around in the Cold War.

Admittedly, Russia has some good reasons for intrigue in Georgia. There’s the oil pipeline that Georgia has finally got working. And then there’s that oil pipeline.

Russia has a decent amount of oil anyway. Georgia’s doing the same thing we’ve done over and over, so why wouldn’t they be expecting us to help them? Unfortunately, they’re the ones with their eyes on ethnic cleansing, which is what they’re accusing the Russians of.

One Response to “So What’s Really Going on in Georgia?”

  1. Yeah its really hard to tell what’s really going on and what really started it.

But like ya said it’s really hard to take the Shrub seriously when he talks about human rights, and not invading sovereign nations. Unfortunately for the same reasons we laugh at him, Putin laughs at him too.
