Surgery Tomorrow
Tomorrow I get surgery on my shoulder.
Last week I tied up as many loose ends as possible at work, and tried to tie up a few at home. I’m going to be out of work for six weeks, mostly because I won’t be able to drive.
I’m not so much freaked out about the surgery itself… I’ll be several shades of “under” while that’s going on. I guess they start with a sedative to calm me down, then a nerve block that stops all sensation to my shoulder and then the final knockout stuff that puts me completely under. No problem there.
What really freaks me out is that I won’t have use of my right arm, and I’m a VERY right handed person. I can’t do squat with my left hand. I’m hoping I can angle myself and pop my fingers out of the sling so there’s some way I can type while I’m in the sling, otherwise I think I’ll go really crazy. I have the Dragon voice recognition software, so I’m hoping I can still do some blogging and take lots of notes on at least a couple of the important EWAKI books QoMU has recommended.
I’m also worried about the Queen of my Universe. She’s already been sharing workspace during the day with our ever-present contractors, and has a hard enough time getting work done as it is. Now she has to put up with a partially crippled husband to boot. DOUG and Bill are both mother hens at heart though, so they’ll probably double as caretakers, especially if QoMU gets seated on a jury when she reports for Jury Duty on Wednesday.
If I can write it won’t be all bad, and there’s some stuff I figure I’ll be able to do right handed. We have a lot of work throughout the yard turning useless vegetation into food bearing vegetation. If someone else cuts the stuff down, I can drag it off one handed. Unless I learn how to use a chain saw one-handed. Not likely to happen.
I guess we’ll see. If you don’t hear from me for a few weeks you’ll know why.

Hope all is going well for you. Surgery on St. Patrick’s Day, hope you don’t have an Irish doctor our you could be in trouble.
As it happens I have a russian Doctor. Apparently I was giggling about that in my post-operative haze.
But everyone’s Irish on St. Patrick’s day!
