Beginning to Look Like a Kitchen

We can see the light at the end of the construction tunnel now. The paint is on the walls and the kitchen cabinets are in, so the house has the look of a house that’s somewhere near approaching civilization.

DOUG and Bill did the priming and painting throughout most of last week and this week. We were going for a rich, Starbucks kinda color scheme throughout the house, and I think we hit it on the head.

Colorz

We get our paint from a decorating store in Canandaigua called Teschner’s. They have an incredible paint department, and also sell antiques, including the writing desk of my dreams. It’s also where we got our stools that’ll eventually go along the bar.

Bay Window

Anyway, this paint rocks. It’s some funky European brand and it’s amazing. DOUG put the primer on and couldn’t believe how easy it went on. The finish coat looks incredible.

Tile

Next, DOUG, who is the master of all things flooring, laid down the kitchen tile. We used to have this really ugly-ass linoleum that buckled up at all the corners. This is the tile without the grout in between the pieces. Even so, this is like a dream come true.

The Cabinets

The kitchen cabinets have been in for a month or so sitting in boxes in the garage and DOUG’S in-law apartment. Now they’re hanging proudly in the kitchen. The countertop guys are coming this week to do a template, then we have to wait a few more weeks for them to put the countertop in, then we can put the cooktop and the sink in. That will be a happy day.

The crew is working at fever pace.

Bill with the Drill

Billy is working on the fireplace at the moment. They’re going to put strips of mahogany over it to make it stand out more.

DOUG measuring

Pretty soon DOUG will be able to put the floor in the living room and hallway. He’s doing some anticipatory measuring here.

Joe's Ass

This is Joe’s ass. Joe is a master woodworker, and we caught him in a slow couple weeks so he could do the molding and some other fine trim work.

It’s cool to have a day off from work so I can see what gets done in a day.

  1. I had my kitchen remodelled 2 years ago. Because of the raw scars from that, I don’t have any smart remarks to make.

It really looks great, though. Send some pictures whenever you get it done, okay?

  2. Looks great man, the only thing I don’t like is that you called it a starbucks color scheme, please come up with a different analogy, otherwise, awesome man! Congrats you’re almost there.

  3. how about rich earthy tones?

  4. much better, and seeing as you’re a self professed hippie you can get away with saying “rich earthy tones”, my friends would kick my ass if I said that, about anything.

  5. they’re not tolerant of metrosexuals?

by the way, I’ve been enjoying Against Me a lot lately. And… working my way through NOFX. Getting in touch with my inner punk I think. Elections make me angry.
