Ron Paul is Becoming my Hero
The reason I like the movie Bulworth so much is that Warren Beatty’s character tells the truth without thinking about it, and very often it’s the ugly truth that no one wants to hear. Or it’s the simple truth that we all should hear but never do hear because the media is so tightly under the grip of corporate control.
It’s a great movie, a must see for anyone into progressive politics and comedy. Here’s an interview with Warren Beatty about the movie with some clips if you haven’t seen it.
Back in ‘04, I heard Howard Dean speak live in New Hampshire when I went down to help what, by then, was his failing campaign, what with the barbaric yalp and all. It was a more sedate speech than the Iowa speech that preceded the “yalp” that I’ve included below, but it inspired me to actually hear a politician speaking so frankly about the current situation in the United States and saying so many things that I believe so deeply in. I’ve supported lots of politicians, like Bill Clinton, because he was by far the lesser evil. Howard Dean said what I was thinking, and it almost brought me to tears.
Enter Ron Paul. He first impressed me when he schooled Big Ben on sane fiscal policy, and his fanatical supporters remind me of the old Howard Dean crew. But he’s a Republican and I was a little wary of how he stood on a lot of issues. This video from last week’s Republican debate really turned me into a fan.
Quite simply, dude has stones. He tells it like it is…. something that no one else in the race for the presidency has the guts to do.
Not that my endorsement as a humble blogger matters all that much, but I’ve pretty much decided to vote for Barack Obama in next week’s primary, but I’m not doing so enthusiastically. With Dennis Kucinich and John Edwards out, I’m left with a choice between two candidates who, like Bill Clinton, will serve as by far the lesser of two evils and in my book Obama rates only a couple notches above Hillary Clinton.
That being said though, I would seriously consider throwing my vote away for Ron Paul in the general election if he runs as an independent… and all that that implies.
