Ron Paul Opens a Can of Economic Whoop-Ass
The Queen of my Universe sent me this clip of Senator and Presidential candidate Ron Paul opening a can of Economic Whoop-Ass on Fed Chair Paul Bernanke. He finally tries to get Bernanke to talk about some of the real problems facing the economy, and the real problems that have come about because the government (and so the press and the American people) refuse to acknowledge it.
It’s that bursting bubble of an economy we’re all living in. Ron Paul lays it all right there on the table. The constant re-flation of the dollar is having disastrous economic consequences, and it’s not sustainable. Our currency is going to shit and nobody’s acknowledging it.
I admire Paul for telling it like it is when nobody else will. He’ll probably be dismissed as a whack job for realizing the economic emperor is naked, but somebody’s got to do it and it might as well be a Republican.
Did you catch the expression on Bernanke’s face at the end? It looked like he was going start crying before the other Senator leashed Paul in. Bernanke had that chastened “I’m only following orders” look that he has no other choice to wear if he wants to keep his job in this time of great denial.
Ron Paul impressed the hell out of me. I don’t know much about him. I heard he’s Pro-Life, which kinda scares me, but Anti-War which I really like especially coming from a so-called Republican. He’s also not taking any big corporate campaign bucks, which is also great. These two out of three good things being said, I still don’t know if I trust the guy.
People on both sides of the aisle have reason to fear him though. He might be the “real” person many grassroots Republicans want to represent them, in much the way pre-Campaign 2008 John McCain used to. This could take away from the moneyed Republican establishment. He could also be a spoiler for the Democrats, taking away crucial swing votes from whoever the chosen one will eventually be.
Either way, I like him. Wouldn’t vote for him….but I like him.

“I heard he’s Pro-Life, which kinda scares me …”
Yes, Ron Paul is pro-life, having delivered over 4000 babies in his career as an OB/GYN. However, his position is that the federal government has absolutely no constitutional jurisdiction to be involved in the abortion issue at all. Just as he does not support Roe vs. Wade as a proper court decision, he has stated that he would not support a federal ban on abortion, either.
Ron Paul states that the abortion is an issue that belongs to the respective states to decide. Or to paraphrase him, the more difficult an issue is, the more local its solution should be. Centralized, one-size-fits-all solutions to difficult problems usually turn out to be poor ones.
For further info, search on YouTube under “ron paul” / “abortion” as he has clarified his views on this issue in interviews on several occasions.
Thanks for that very important clarification! This is what happens when people like me oversimplify things. Me like Ron even more.
