Il Caffe Duomo: Coffee for the Fascist in Me
My latest thrift store coup is the Krups Il Cafe Duomo from the Dorsey Street Exchange in Saranac Lake New York, which is the coolest thrift store in New York State. I replaced the $8 Black and Decker espresso machine (I thought Black and Decker just made hardware stuff?!)that I got at a garage sale, and the $4.50 Mr. Coffee regular coffee maker (but that’s MISTER coffee to you, bub) with the $12 Krups Il Cafe Duomo that makes both.
This purchase was a no-brainer. This impressive looking coffee maker for only $12? Yes, the espresso pot was missing, but I knew my old one would work. Besides, it’s from a thrift store so there’s always a part missing. Plus there’s a net profit of $.50.
Both sides make a superior product. The coffee side has one of those cool gold filters, which means I don’t have to pick the grounds off the paper filter to throw them into the composter.

And it looks so freaking cool.
Furthermore… the NAME. Il Cafe Duomo. It makes me feel like goose-stepping around the kitchen, and when I fire up the steaming wand I swear I can almost hear the roar of an Italian crowd screaming for their fascist leader.
“DUOMO! DUOMO! IL CAFE DUOMO!”
The Black and Decker merely heated the milk…Il Cafe Duomo works the milk into a froth, which any self-respecting fascist dictator should do.
It’s not just about the coffee… it’s about the power.
COMMENT!
Where’s the best thrift store in your neck of the woods?
Would someone hailed as Il Caffe Duomo kick W’s ass or what?
