A Very Proper Eastern Tree Frog

Returning home in the rain after an afternoon of kayakking, we left the hatch of the van open with the boats hanging out, planning to put them away later. When I reached in later to grab the keys out of the glove box, this little creature was resting contentedly on the open glove box door.

After snapping the picture, we tried to catch it temporarily so we could move it safely away from our marauding cats. It flew effortlessly through the air, and found could land on just about anything spiderman style, including a thin stalk of lilies we hoped to hide it in.

We didn’t think there were tree frogs in New York. We were wrong. This is an Eastern Tree Frog… and a very proper one at that.
