A Splendid Little Protest
What better to do on a lovely Friday afternoon in Western New York than attend attend an anti-war protest? Americans Against Escalation in Iraq is starting a massive summer-long campaign to put pressure on pro-war Congressmen to actually listen to their constituents and change their vote.
This Friday’s protest was designed to get some press and the attention of our Bush-clone Representative Randy Kuhl by his office in Bath, NY. As one of the speakers pointed out, the rural and urban poor are the ones dying in Iraq at a disproportionate rate. As a result of some really bizarre gerrymandering, Mr. Kuhl has both in his district.
I was a little disappointed that the event was so small, but that’s what makes grassroots work so effective. One little protest in one little town in New York’s Southern Tier may not amount to much, but hundreds of these around the country on a consistent basis will!
Americans Against Escalation in Iraq is a national campaign comprised of a variety of groups from across the political spectrum that are committed to opposing the reckless Bush plan to escalate the war in Iraq and working for the responsible redeployment of American Forces. The Iraq Summer Campaign is starting strong, and they need volunteers to help out a variety of campaign events throughout the summer.

[...] GranolaBox reports on an anti-escalation-in-Iraq protest aimed at getting Kuhl to stop supporting escalation in Iraq. This is noteworthy, because Bath is probably the center of Kuhl’s support in NY-29 — he’s from Bath, as he has told voters more or less ad nauseam. [...]
[...] Earlier, we told you (via GranolaBox) about an anti-Iraq war protest in Bath; now the Corning Leader (via Fighting29th, who has an amazing Southern Tier source for media coverage) report on an anti-Iraq war protest in Corning. The article also quotes three Republican veterans as favoring withdrawl; one of the veterans accuses Kuhl of “flip-flopping” by claiming he wants the war to end while at the same time opposing measures aimed at forcing a withdrawl.
