Randy Kuhl: Saving our Asses, but not our Troops

Participating in last week’s flurry of meaningful and not-so-meaningful Congressman Randy Kuhl and other representatives were able to show their warm, fuzzy side while keeping their bloodthirsty hawkish sides intact.
The House voted, as did Rep. Kuhl, overwhelmingly for the Wild Horse Protection Bill. This prohibit the Bureau of Land Management from selling wild horses or burros to be slaughtered for commercial use. I like horsies and, having recently read Don Quixote, I probably appreciate burros more than your average person. But this one was a no brainer and therefore perfect for Republicans in the House.
In more important matters, Congressman Kuhl voted against the U.S. Troop Readiness, Veterans’ Care, Katrina Recovery, and Iraq Accountability Appropriations Act. This reconciled the differences between the House and Senate versions, and no thanks to Congressman Kuhl, it passed. It funds military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan and sets a timetable for the withdrawal of troops from Iraq.
Admittedly, the Bill is headed for a presidential veto, but it would have been nice to for the Congressman to bring the brave soldiers in our district home safely from the war, thus showing as much concern for human life as that of wild horses and burros.
