What’s Wrong with this Picture?
What could possibly be wrong with this pastoral winter scene of my yard, my neighbor’s garage and the beautiful creek that runs behind our back yards? I’ll tell you what’s wrong.. IT’S APRIL 8th dammit.
The mighty grill on the porch is supposed to be glistening, ready to grill as we lounge and eat on the front porch contemplating gardening projects and basking in the sun’s long-awaited doses of Vitamin E or whatever vitamin the sun has in it.
You’re supposed to see flowers coming up as a hopeful sign of spring. Last week there were flowers coming up, because last week it was spring.
Since it’s early in the fishing season, normally you’d see anglers in their hip waders trying to catch some of the trout in the stream. Not this year. Their hip waders would freeze solid.
It looks more like deer season, except that during deer season when there’s supposed to be snow, there wasn’t any, and hunters combed the woods in comfortable, almost balmy temperatures.
I don’t usually fall prey to Seasonal Affective Disorder, but when the seasons are all disordered by global climate change, how can I help it? I’m not an anti-winter person. I’m going to miss winter when we finally eliminate it altogether. I like playing in the snow, and, in those rare winters when we get enough snow, cross-country skiing. BUT IT’S APRIL!!!
